Nonjudicial Punishment provides commanders with an essential and prompt means of maintaining good order and discipline and also promotes positive behavior changes in servicemembers without the stigma of a court-martial conviction.

The following Article 15s were given at Edwards during the fourth quarter of 2008:

A master sergeant misused his government travel card in violation of Article 92 and lied about the misuse when questioned by a supervisor in violation of Article 107. The commander imposed the following punishment: reduction to technical sergeant and a reprimand.

A technical sergeant sent inappropriate messages from a government computer in violation of Article 92, committed adultery in violation of Article 134 and lied about the adultery offense when questioned by a supervisor in violation of Article 107. The commander imposed the following punishment: reduction to staff sergeant, suspended forfeitures of $250 pay per month for two months, 45 days of extra duty and a reprimand.

A technical sergeant stored obscene material on a government computer and sent inappropriate pictures and messages from a government computer. The technical sergeant also developed intimate personal relationships with two recruits. All three offenses were in violation of Article 92. The commander imposed the following punishment: reduction to staff sergeant and suspended forfeiture of $1,361 pay per month for two months.

A senior airman wrongfully used Vicodin in violation of Article 112a. The commander imposed the following punishment: reduction to airman with reduction below airman first class suspended and a 30-day restriction to base and a reprimand.

A senior airman misused his government travel card and operated a motor vehicle without a valid driver's license. Both offenses were in violation of Article 92. The senior airman also made a false official statement to his supervisor regarding his leave location in violation of Article 107. The commander imposed the following punishment: reduction to airman first class, suspended forfeitures of $417 pay for one month and a 14-day restriction to base.

An airman first class wrongfully used Vicodin in violation of Article 112a. The commander imposed the following punishment: reduction to airman basic with reduction below airman suspended forfeitures of $673 pay per month for two months with forfeitures of $673 pay for one month suspended, a 30-day restriction to base and a reprimand.

An airman wrongfully sexually contacted another active-duty member in violation of Article 120. The commander imposed the following punishment: reduction to airman basic, forfeiture of $673 pay per month for two months with forfeitures of $673 pay for one month suspended and a reprimand.

In the case of persuasive extenuating or mitigating circumstances or first time offenders, occasionally a suspension will be granted to the offender. A suspension is the postponement of the application of all or part of the punishment for a specific probationary period. The punishment will be automatically remitted at the end of that period, if the member does not violate the conditions of their suspension.
