Environmental Management offers dance with dandelions Published March 20, 2009 By Patti Kumazawa Environmental Management EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Tiptoe through the tidytips, dance through the desert dandelions and get giddy with the gilia. The winter's rainfall promises a colorful spring on base, and Environmental Management is sponsoring several free wildflower tours for base residents and workers. Tours are scheduled for: -- March 31 and April 16: 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. -- April 2, 7, and 21: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. -- April 9 and 14: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees for all tours except the one on April 21 will carpool and caravan from the parking lot at the intersection of Rosamond Boulevard and Popson Avenue to various stops. Off-road vehicles are not required, but participants should bring shoes appropriate for walking in the desert. The April 21 tour will be part of the base's Earth Day activities and will depart from the Center of Excellence, near the intersection of Payne Avenue and Community Drive. Transportation will be provided for the April 21 tour. Civilians who wish to participate may not do so on duty time. They must be on their day off or be charged annual leave, leave without pay, compensatory time, credit hours, or time-off award hours. Participants should bring drinking water and wear comfortable shoes, sunscreen and a hat. Reservations are required.
