412th MXLS turns pitcher's duel to slugfest, smashes AFRL Published June 10, 2009 By Airman 1st Class William O'Brien 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 412th Maintenance Logistics Squadron trailed the Air Force Research Labratory by one point, Going into the third inning, with both teams combining for a total of seven points. It was in that inning that the 412th MXLS took control of the game, scoring 12 runs. After the 412th MXLS's dominant batting, the AFRL was unable to recover -- scoring only two runs in the bottom of the third. "They had a few errors and a few missed cutoffs in the third inning and we found a way to capitalize and blow the game open," said Adam Shura, 412th MXLS coach. The 412th MXLS took their good fortunes into the fourth inning adding another five points to their lead, bringing the score to 25-6. "We had a few bad breaks that inning," said Latravia Dobson, AFRL coach. "They were able to take advatage of that and took a lead we couldn't overcome." Attempting a comeback effort, the AFRL put up their highest scoring effort of the game, scoring six points closing in on the 412th MXLS's lead, bringing the score to 25-13. To open the final inning, the 412th MXLS scored seven runs and created what proved to be an insurmountable lead to a score of 32-13. With one last inning and down by 19 ,the AFRL knew a loss was at hand and scoring big was the only answer, but the inning didn't start well for them. Accumulating two singles and two outs in their first four at-bats. They showed resilence though, scoring four runs before succumbing to the 412th MXLS 32-17. "Right now we're in the second tier of teams in this league," said Shura. "But by the end of this year you'll see us making great plays playing as a team and that's what is going to take."
