Construction site driving safety Published June 17, 2009 Air Force Flight Test Center Ground Safety Office EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- As many of you are aware, many roads on base are under construction with many more upcoming. Rosamond, Lancaster and Fitzgerald Boulevards as well as the South Gate and North Gate all currently remain operational while under construction. While keeping those roads open avoids large detours and makes traveling around base more convenient, when driving in construction zones drivers need to focus your attention to the road and the potential dangers at hand. When driving in a construction zone, the driver should do the following: · Dedicate your full attention to the road. · Disengage from distracting activities, such as changing the radio stations, adjusting the air conditioner or using a hands free calling device. · Concentrate on driving rather than passengers do not let interruptions take the attention from the road. · Pay attention to signs, cones and flaggers. · Watch out for workers in the zone and their equipment. Construction zones are well coned, signed and visible from a distance. It is up to the driver to make the decision to be proactive. Slow down, obey the signs, allow extra time to get to your destination and above all, focus on the road.
