"Flight Test Nation" will make its inaugural flight Oct. 17 as Edwards Air Force Base heralds its test legacy and the 50th anniversary of the X-15 during its open house and air show.

Edwards is unveiling the new air show slogan to honor its long-standing pursuit of performance excellence and the rich aviation heritage it shares with neighbors in Antelope Valley.

Headlining with the Golden Knights, the Army's award winning precision parachute free-fall team, and culminating with Tora! Tora! Tora!, one of the air show industries best flight demonstration teams, the air show will offer nonstop thrills for young and old.

Gates open 7 a.m. and flying begins at approximately 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The open house is slated to close at 6 p.m. so guests have ample time to enjoy the more than 40 static displays scheduled to be on the flight line.

As always, both entry and parking are free, with food, drinks and souvenirs available for purchase throughout the day.
Features for this year will include the F-35, F-22A, B-2, B-52, B-1, and B-17. Air Combat Command's F-22, F-16 Heritage Flight and A-10 demonstration teams will provide performances along with more than a dozen other performers.

Flight Test Nation 2009 will also showcase a mock up of the X-51A Wave Rider, the newest innovation in hypersonic flight being tested now at Edwards. In addition the world renown Test Pilot School will perform an aircraft aerial review, and spectators will see a collection of all Air Force's bombers flying together in formation.
