General Yeager to be inducted into California HOF Published Aug. 27, 2009 By Airman 1st Class William O'Brien 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife Maria Shriver announced the 2009 inductees to The California Museum's California Hall of Fame Aug. 25. Included in the 12 inductees is Maj. Gen. Chuck Yeager, famed test pilot and first man to break the sound barrier. Conceived by Ms. Shriver, First Lady of California, The California Museum's California Hall of Fame honors legendary people who embody California's innovative spirit and have made their mark on history. The fourth year, the 2009 California Museum's Hall of Fame induction class will join the 38 past inductees as those recognized as people who have impacted the world with their overall courage, determination and creativity. "It is an honor to be inducted into the California Hall of Fame by the Governor and First Lady," said General Yeager. "California is the home of the greatest achievements in flight, and I am proud to represent the collective efforts of the many who sought to make those dreams a reality." The California Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place Dec. 1, at The California Museum in Sacramento. The ceremony will be followed by a reception and unveiling of the new exhibit unveiling artifacts and mementos personally loaned by the inductees, their families and organizations, including many items that have never been exhibited before.
