Team Edwards concludes 101 Critical Days of Summer with zero major mishaps Published Sept. 16, 2009 By Airman 1st Class William A. O'Brien 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Team Edwards wrapped-up the 2009 101 Critical Days of Summer Sept. 8 at 7 a.m. The 15-week event is an Air Force mishap prevention program intended to minimize class A and B incidents and fatalities between Memorial Day and Labor Day, a time when incidents are twice as likely to occur. "101 Critical Days of Summer is program that emphasizes safety during the summer when everyone is out doing more activities that could cause hazards," said Senior Master Sgt. Rolando Pabon, first Sgt. 95th Medical Group. "We want to heighten the sense of urgency to all the safety issues that go along with what people are doing." During the 101 Critical Days of Summer, Team Edwards incurred four off duty incidents, zero DUI and zero class A or B incidents that ended in fatalities. "We did excellent," he said. "First line supervision was our key. We have a form that every Airman must fill out before the weekend so we know where they're going and what their plans are." Sergeant Pabon said that while it's impossible for supervisors to monitor their Airmen once they've left work, by talking with them about their plans before hand, they can still help to mitigate the risk. "Motorcycle and car operation, and water safety are the biggest concerns this time of year," said sergeant Pabon. "And while we want our Airmen to enjoy all these activities, we also want them to put safety first. By keeping their supervisors informed, we we're able to ensure that happened." Team Edwards did a good job of preventing injuries over the summer and Sergeant Pabon said he hopes Team Edwards can continue this all the time. "I'm happy with what we were able to do over the summer," he said. "But we have to keep it up. It's important we that we all practice safety all the time."
