On Sept. 26 those who live on Edwards Air Force Base will have the opportunity to get rid of all household hazardous and universal waste products legally and safely.

The base Environmental Management Team will be hosting a "hazardous waste round-up" at the Base Exchange parking lot from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Base residents are urged to take advantage of an event that's geared toward maintaining a healthy environment for everyone.

There is no charge to anyone, simply bring your hazardous waste to the Round-up point where Environmental Management team members will be there to answer questions and help direct which items go where.

Household hazardous waste items include yard chemicals, cleaning supplies, paint and automotive products.

Universal waste includes non-working devices such as televisions, appliances, computers, telephones, ink cartridges and cell phones. Also coming under universal waste are aerosol cans, dead batteries, unbroken fluorescent tubes, halogen bulbs and items that contain mercury. None of these items should ever be put into the trash.

The hazardous waste and round-up project is for Edwards residents only. Environmental management cannot accept hazardous waste items from off-base residents at this time.
