Edwards opens gates for Flight Test Nation 2009 Published Oct. 2, 2009 By Airman 1st Class William A. O'Brien 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Team Edwards will open its gates to the public when it hosts Flight Test Nation 2009. Scheduled for Oct. 17, FTN-09 is free to the public and will be the first open house and air show hosted by Edwards since 2006. This year, Edwards celebrates the 50th anniversary of the X-15 and the heraldry of test legacy. The West and North Gates will open for public entry at 7 a.m. Once inside, attendees will be directed to designated parking areas. Drivers with valid state issued handicap placards will be directed to their designated parking area. There will also be a designated bus parking area. An RV/ travel trailer parking will be designated as well, but attendees will not be permitted to stay on base overnight. All attendees will be shuttled from the parking areas to the flight line bus. There will also be a walking path for visitors who prefer to walk to the show area. Aerial demonstrations will begin at 10 a.m. until the conclusion of the air show at 3 p.m. Demonstrations will include the U.S. Army Parachute Team the Golden Knights, the F-22 Raptor and Tora! Tora! Tora! Static displays will include heritage aircraft as well as some of newest additions to the Air Force inventory. Air show attendees may bring with them folding chairs, hand held umbrellas and small lunchbox sized coolers. However, they may not bring any kind of weapon, illegal drugs, glass bottles or large coolers.
