95th Air Base Wing commander addresses questions from town hall meeting Published Oct. 13, 2009 EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 95th Air Base Wing commander hosted a town hall meeting, at the Air Force Flight Test Center Conference Center Sept. 21 to address base residents questions and provide them information on upcoming projects and programs. During the meeting, unanswered questions and suggestions were written down for further discrestion from base agencies. The following are the questions and their corresponding answers: Would it be possible to wash the stretch pad outside the Fitness Center? The rubberized material of the stretching pad is breaking down, causing it to leave black residue. It cannot be pressure washed because it will break down further. The Rosburg Fitness Center continues to blow the sand off the pad, but it is an endless battle. There is a project to resurface the running track. Along with that, they are looking into modifying the contract to reseal the stretch pad as well. The estimated completion of this project is January 1, 2010. During the meeting Col. Jerry Gandy, 95th Air Base Wing commander told the story of a time when he showed up at the movie theater an hour late. He then asked residents if they would prefer a 6 or 7 p.m. movie start time, the result was a consensus to move the time to 7 p.m. because of this, beginning Oct. 15, the theater show time will be moved to 7p.m. Could Club Muroc bring back the Sunday Brunch at Club Muroc? Club Muroc hold the Sunday Brunch the last Sunday of each month beginning Oct. 25. The cost will be $12 for members, $15 Non-Members, Teens 13 to 17 - $6, club members children12 and under will be free. 12 and under non-member will be free for the first two aand $4 for additional children. Airman Club Members and families will cost $6. Could the base library get a drive-up drop box? Currently, base officials are in the coordination with Base Safety to add a drop box in close proximity to the main library. The placement of the drop box must be a safe distance from a traffic perspective and ensure that the box will not become too hot for tapes and CDs. Would the base be able to support a community garden for base residents? Currently, the 95th Force Support Squadron is working with the 95th Civil Engineer and Transportation Directorate on how best to make this happen for our on-base housing residents. Could the bus fees from school to Youth Center be lowered or eliminated? After calculations, it was found that the current Youth Activities' net income is 0.1 percent and offering additional discounts will put the activity in a negative cash flow. So, to do so, other activities may have to be offset curtailed. Recommendations are being prepared so 95th Air Base Wing leadership can make an informed decision. Home school real estate possible - is it possible to get a room for our home schoolers to use? The FSS Education and Training section is coordinating for space in the Center of Excellence facility. We should have word in the very near future. Are kids sitting on the floor at school? The school principal said on the first day some students did have to sit on the floor, but that day schedules were modified to rectify the problem. How many bypass lanes will be available at the West Gate while it undergoes construction? A 95th Security Forces Squadron official said drivers can anticipate similar procedures to other gate construction projects. At minimum, the plans include two lanes to enter installation and one to exit. How many lanes will be open to the West Gate during construction? the number of guards used to check identification during rush hour varies depending on the squadron's deployment tempo. Typically, there are four personnel per traffic lane of traffic. The 95th SFS understands the problem and do everything they can to to minimize entry wait times at every available opportunity while maintaining the patrol footprint on the installation. How can the 95th SFS stop the speeding issues at gates, when leaving work? There are, several speed limit signs decreasing the speed limit on approach to exit the gate. The 95th SFS has stopped motorists and cautioned them of excessive speed. In the past, 95th SFS has used selective traffic enforcement procedures to identify speeding at base gates. Patrolmen have used RADAR and LIDAR units and have been successful with identifying motorists exceeding the posted speed limit.
