Women's Pacific West Military Athletic Conference basketball was played at The Rosburg Fitness Center Nov. 14 and 15.

Women's varsity basketball teams from Edwards and Los Angeles Air Force Bases as well as 29 Palms Marine Air Ground Combat Center, Calif., face off once each month, hosted by one of the teams at their base.

Entering the league late and in their first week of action, Edwards coach Marcus Williams, said Edwards team played well considering the circumstances and with more practice, they have the potential to be as good as any other team in the league.

"We aren't as condition yet because we're just standing up the team," said Williams. "So we haven't been practicing as much as we should."

Both teams started the game slow, but with three minutes left in the half, the game started to get away from Edwards. Edwards ended the half with a successful layup, but still trailed by double-digits going into intermission.

29 Palms was able to maintain its lead over Edwards throughout the second half. A scoring streak by Edwards pulled them to within five with eight minutes left, but a late collapse allowed 29 Palms to win 48-64.

"Both teams came out and played very hard, but 29 palms came out with the win," said Coach Williams. "Right now, we're still building. We could be just as good as the rest of the league once we get more practice."

Catresa Shubinchang, Edwards point guard, said she was happy with her team's offensive performance and believes as soon as the team practices more they will be in a position to win.

"Our offense played pretty good and we made most of our free throws," she said. "We didn't win because we didn't play good enough defense. Once we get conditioned well do better."

Coach Williams said his team has a good variety of skilled players and are on their way to being competitive with the rest of the league.

"We have a lot of good shooters and a good presence in the post," he said. "Once our team gets on track I think we'll be able to make a good run for the league championship."

Edwards also lost to LA twice, 46-56 and 48-55.

Other game scores in women's games were:

29 Palms vs. LA: 61-52

29 Palms vs. LA: forfeit by 29 Palms
