As Laura and I begin our journey to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base we want to thank you for having made this such a wonderful assignment for us.

Time and again we've heard Edwards Air Force Base described a National Treasure, and duly so. With its one-of-a-kind Rogers Dry Lake Bed and rich heritage filled with the most important developments in the history of aviation, Edwards is indeed unique. Legends like Brigadier General Chuck Yeager, Major General Joe Engle and Colonel Pete Knight became the first, the fastest, the highest, and the unsurpassed right here where we live and work every day.

But we found something even greater at Edwards. We witnessed the Air Force Flight Test Center and associate units come together to support, develop, and test new weapons systems for America. We watched you pour your hearts and souls into carrying out important programs, passing tough inspections and making the mission work. We stood with you and shed tears in remembering our brethren who fell in peace and war, all Airmen committed to protecting this great nation. We also saw our community support groups and private organizations make huge differences in our lives and those of the men and women on the installation.

In reflection, we discovered that regardless of the patch on your uniform, or whether or not you wore one at all, you need only look left or right to find someone making a difference here. At Edwards, people care deeply about the mission, the base and each other. It is this camaraderie and friendship we will miss the most, and take with us to AFMC.

Thank you for the past two and a half years and we hope to see you down the road.
