During the next several months, the West Gate outbound lanes will be under construction due to the increased vigilance in homeland security since 9/11.

The construction project will reconfigure roadways; add lighting, barriers, cameras and warning systems to bring our installation into compliance with the latest security standards.

For the duration of this construction, motorists will be required to practice safe lane changing and be patient.

The outbound traffic is reduced to one lane approximately 2500 Linear Feet approaching and through the West Gate area to allow contractors to work safely north of the guard shack. The reduction of the average speed for this distance will add a few minutes to outbound commute time.

Please use the merge areas and warnings provided to safely merge and allow others to do the same. Being courteous makes traffic flow smoother for everyone. Driving all the way to the front of the line and attempting to squeeze into traffic only angers other drivers and may cause an accident.

For base personnel who live in Lancaster, Palmdale or surrounding areas, they may want to use the South Gate between March 1 and October 2010. This may ease the stress of their drive to and from work. Above all, stay calm and be patient. It may cost a little time, but it won't cost an arm or a leg.
