Edwards Officer's Spouses Club hosted their 9th Annual Mad Marchness Charity Auction at Club Muroc March 19.

The annual event raises money for the EOSC, which supports base families, the local community and several national charities. This year's auction raised $10,000 for the EOSC.

"Last year we donated $6,500 in college scholarships to graduating high school seniors and over $5,000 to organizations that benefit active-duty military and their spouses, and the on-base elementary and high schools," said Gayle Allred, Mad Marchness Auction chairwoman. "Recipients included the Airmen's Support Fund, Chapel Food Closet, Air Force Village, Enlisted Widow's Home, National Military Family Association, and the Fisher House."

The EOSC said they were pleased with the turnout of the event.

"The whole evening was successful. I don't think we could've asked for more and I don't think we could've expected it to go so well," said Dawn Hamlett, Mad Marchness Auction co- chairwoman. "Between tickets sold beforehand and at the door, we had at least 130 people show up for the auction,"

The OSC was also pleased with the participation of the volunteers.

"Our auctioneer, Master Sgt. Elmer Clark, has been the auctioneer for us several times in the past," said Mrs. Allred. "He also does our bingo event every year and he was our Santa Claus for our Christmas function. He is wonderful; he is awesome for helping us do that."

"Airman 1st Class Cole Cargill, came in at the last minute, there was a cancellation with our other auctioneer and he had to step-up and he did a great job along with Sergeant Clark," added Mrs. Hamlett.

Mrs. Allred said she was pleased by the generosity of those who attended the event. Explaining that their kindness is what makes it possible for them to assist so many charities.

"There was a lot of support," said Mrs. Allred. "I was extremely impressed by the generosity of everybody; they just gave and gave and gave that night. I know by bidding on stuff they get something in return, but it was just pure generosity and from the kindness of their heart that they supported our causes, which support our base."

The Edwards Officers Spouses Club is an organization for spouses that foster the welfare of members and provides social activities for officer spouses, active duty or retired and civilian equivalent.

"There's information at the Airman and family readiness Center about who new spouses can contact to get involved with us. All of our spouses are officers here," explained Mrs. Hamlett. "It's a group of women who do things to help the base community. Everything we do is on a volunteer basis."

They said for those interested in joining could stop by the Thrift Shop and any of the volunteers could assist them, and for enlisted spouses, they can visit the Airmen's Attic to receive information on joining Edwards Enlisted Spouses Club.
