Desert High School student honored at banquet Published March 25, 2010 By Kenji Thuloweit 95th Air base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame honored 45 young men at the San Fernando Valley 36th Annual Scholar Athlete award banquet March 19. One of those honored was Edward's Desert High School student Justin Kennett. Justin is a senior who letters in football, wrestling and track all while maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. Justin's mother, Kathy Kennett is a kindergarten teacher at Branch Elementary School here. "He's had such a fabulous year," said Mrs. Kennett. "He made the all-academic team in football and was wrestling champion in his weight class." Justin was one of 45 student-athletes recognized for excelling at academics as well as sports. The NFF's mission statement says it wants to "inspire our nation's youth to compete on the athletic fields and in the classroom and to assume leadership roles on high school and college campuses." Mrs. Kennett said her son has committed to Fresno State and plans to major in kinesiology. The 45 award winners came from the San Fernando, Crescenta, Santa Clarita, Antelope and Conejo Valleys.
