First quarter 2010 sees eight Edwards Airmen receive Articles 15 Published April 1, 2010 By Senior Airman Melissa Lugo-Velez Air Force Flight Test Center Legal Office EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- In the first quarter of 2010, eight Articles 15 were given as nonjudicial punishment to Edwards Airmen for violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. NJP provides commanders with the essential means of maintaining order and discipline. NJP also promotes behavioral changes in servicemembers without the stigma of a court-martial conviction. The following Articles 15 were given here between Jan. 1 and March 31: An airman first class failed to report to duty in violation of Article 86. The commander imposed the following punishment: reduction to airman basic with reduction below airman suspended, 30 days extra duty and a reprimand. An airman first class failed to report to duty in violation of Article 86. The commander imposed the following punishment: reduction to airman basic with reduction below airman suspended, 15 days extra duty and a reprimand. An airman first class failed to report to duty and made a false official statement to the airman's supervisor in violation of Articles 86 and 107. The commander imposed the following punishment: reduction to airman basic with reduction below airman suspended, and a reprimand. An airman first class fell asleep while on post in violation of Article 113. The commander imposed the following punishment: Reduction to airman basic with reduction below airman suspended, 15 days extra duty and a reprimand. An airman first class damaged government property in violation of Article 108. The commander imposed the following punishment: 14 days extra duty and forfeiture of $300.00 for one month. An airman fell asleep while on post on two separate occasions in violation of Article 113. The commander imposed the following punishment: Reduction to airman basic, 15 days extra duty and a reprimand. An airman fell asleep while on post in violation of Article 113. The commander imposed the following punishment: Reduction to airman basic, 15 days extra duty, suspended and a reprimand. An airman damaged government property in violation of Article 108. The commander imposed the following punishment: Reduction to airman basic, suspended, 14 days extra duty and a reprimand. In the case of persuasive extenuating or mitigating circumstances or first time offenders, occasionally a suspension will be granted to the offender. A suspension is the postponement of the application of all or part of the punishment for a specific probationary period. The punishment will be remitted automatically at the end of the time period if the member does not violate the conditions of his or her suspension or any other article of the UCMJ.
