Legal Office assists eligible Edwards employees Published April 9, 2010 By Senior Airman Mela'nie Rowell Edwards Air Force Base Legal Office EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Edwards Legal Office sees more than 1,800 clients a year for legal assistance. Annually, Judge Advocate General Corps offices assist more than 243,800 clients. With the numbers constantly rising, the JAG Corps has established a Web site that provides information to help clients with their needs. To better serve Legal Office clients, this Web site, https://www.aflegalassistance.com, is Air Force-wide to ensure consistency among all legal offices. This Web site offers handouts that provide some basic assistance in common legal assistance matters such as family law, consumer affairs, deployments and real property. This Web site also allows eligible clients to complete the necessary paperwork to have wills or powers of attorney drafted. According to Air Force Instruction 51-504, Legal Assistance, Notary, and Preventative Law Programs, dated October 27, 2003, Active Duty members, retirees, Reservists and Guardsmen on Title 10 orders or activated or released from title 10 orders within 30 days, and their eligible dependents, are entitled to receive legal services. Civilian employees and contractors are entitled to receive legal services for wills and powers of attorneys only when deploying. However, the Air Force Web site is accessible to everyone regardless of military status. For more information on eligibility for legal assistance, refer to AFI 51-504, paragraph 1.3., or call the Legal Office at 277-4310.
