Col. Jerry Gandy, 95th Air Base Wing commander, has set May 3 through 7 as "Edwards AFB Spring Clean-Up Week" and solicits the support of everyone on base.

A large portion of the week should be focused on cleaning up trash.  The accumulation of trash is not only an eyesore, but also a potential fire hazard.  Strong winds create large outdoor accumulations of trash, brush, and other debris. It is important that each person on base takes a moment to clean up living and working areas to ensure Edwards looks nice and remains a great place to live and work.

Additionally, everyone is reminded to ensure they comply with base appearance standards. Facility managers are encouraged to use this week for general interior and exterior housekeeping and to perform self-help enhancement projects, such as painting or landscaping.

Facility managers should also contact the 95th Air Base Wing Civil Engineer Directorate Logistics Section (Bldg. 3500) at 277-2938 to make arrangements to obtain self-help materials. The Self-Help Center hours of operation are Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

If facility managers require bulk refuse collection for large item disposal, they should contact the 95th Air Base Wing Civil Engineer Directorate Contract Management Division at 277-2431 to schedule collection.

Housing residents are encouraged to use the U-Fix-It Store.  Household hazardous materials can be dropped off for reuse and residents can obtain supplies and equipment to assist in home and gardening projects. Housing residents are reminded that recyclable items and green waste must be placed in the appropriate containers.  If housing residents place trash or garbage in plastic bags or boxes, they need to observe the 50-pound weight limit.

Along with their regularly scheduled bulk pickup, an extra bulk pickup will be provided to all housing residents on May 7.

Here is a list of where to dispose of certain items:

Metal items can be taken to the recycling center at the Base Landfill (Bldg. 7990).
Anti-freeze can be turned in at the Auto Hobby Shop (Bldg 2440).
Motor oil can be turned in at the AAFES Gas Station (Bldg 2110).
Tires can be turned in at either the Auto Hobby Shop or AAFES Gas Station for a minimal disposal fee.
Paint, household chemicals, gas can with gas, and all household batteries can be turned in at the U-Fix-It Store, May 5 to 9, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Team Edwards members can turn in usable items for reuse to the Airman's Attic, the Thrift Store, Base Supply, and the Recycling Center.
