Edwards Airmen and their families received a special surprise April 27. The Antelope Valley chapter of the Red Cross donated $18,400 to the base to help out Air Force families.

The donation will help out Edwards facilities and programs like the Airmen's Attic, the Airmen Family Readiness Center, Hearts Apart and more.

"It's going to help us organize our computers and will also let us have more items for the families," said Japhia Logan, Airman's Attic assistant manager. "They're fulfilling our wish list and we are very excited to see how the money will help our families."

Other items and programs the donation will be used for are laundry carts, dollies, the Volunteer Program and an industrial size washer and dryer set.

"We did this to help contribute to the well-being of our military and their families," said Fran Stewart, Antelope Valley Red Cross, executive director. "We love them."

The Antelope Valley Red Cross serves more than 4,300 square miles, which amounts to 40 percent of Los Angeles County and 50 percent of Kern County. The chapter is comprised of two staff members and 500 volunteers.
