Under clear blue skies with a few fluffy clouds, a light breeze and crisp air the morning of May 24, the 31st Test and Evaluation Squadron conducted their annual Adopt-a-Lot clean-up.

"Thirty-five Airmen, officer and enlisted alike, took the opportunity this morning to get out of their offices and shops to lend a hand to clean up our lot," said Staff Sgt. Dan Michalewicz, 31st Test and Evaluation Squadron, B-2 suitability evaluator. "With all the trash we've collected, I'd say this lot was just waiting to have a good cleaning."

Edwards is expecting distinguished dignitaries to visit various places on base May 26 and 27.

"It was not the determining factor of course, but with the possible visit of DoD and Air Force leadership later in the week, it makes sense to keep our highly-visible lot clean in helping to keep Edwards looking good," Sergeant Michalewicz added.

The 31st's Adopt-a-Lot is located just east of the Air Force Flight Test Center Museum bordered by Lancaster Boulevard on the west, Fitz-Gerald Boulevard on the north and east and Rosamond Boulevard on the south.

"It's a good day for this outing," Master Sgt. Joseph Dedekind, 31st TES Airborne Laser flight superintendent said. "The temperature is cool, not too humid and this type of activity is a good team-building evolution."

While the Adopt-a-Lot agreement is an annual commitment, 31st TES does its best to get out several times a year to help keep Edwards looking clean and inviting.

"It's amazing some of the things that we found out here," Sergeant Dedekind added. "When you consider that this is only borrowed land, and that our stewardship of it is really more of an expectation rather than volunteerism, I wonder how these items got here....perhaps strong winds with the aid of people."

"It is hoped that the other Adopt-a-Lot participants will get out and clean their areas as well," Sergeant Michalewicz added.
