To accommodate environmental technology upgrades the AAFES gas station will close its center island for six days beginning Aug 2. The upgrades will better monitor the fuels system and bring the base service station up to new California environmental standards, making EAFB AAFES the first station in Kern County to comply with the requirements. The outer island pumps will remain open.

The upgrades will require:

- Busting and removing the concrete in two areas

- Pouring and curing fresh concrete

- Installing new blue line hardware (pipe, booths, gasket and dispenser)

- Upgrading the containment monitoring system

- Testing and validating the new installations

The center island will reopen August 8. For more information call Rick Christensen at 661-810-8996.
