Schools on Edwards start Monday: Make it an accident-free year Published Aug. 12, 2010 By Tech. Sgt. Robert Johnson, III EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Desert Junior and Senior High School and Branch Elementary School are scheduled to be back in session Aug. 16 at 8 a.m., and Security Forces is stressing safety. With more than 600 children returning to school, Security Forces is reminding drivers to remain aware of children in the housing and immediate surrounding areas of particular concern are, especially during after-school hours. Pay close attention to areas around intersections and crosswalks: Fitz-Gerald Boulevard, Forbes Avenue, Bailey Avenue, and Payne Avenue and the parking lot area of Buildings 7210 and 7211 (Teen Center and Shoppette) . If these areas can be avoided during school hours, please use alternate routes. Security Forces will be deployed and will strictly enforce the posted speed limits, adherence to instructions of the crossing guards and yielding the right-of-way to pedestrians. As a reminder, motorists must give the-right-of-away to all pedestrians in and out of a crosswalk at all times. Motorists must also obey the crossing guards and wait until all pedestrians are safely across and out of the street before proceeding. Making 2010-11 an accident-free school year is every motorist's responsibility while on Edwards, Security Forces say.
