Edwards Airman dies of gunshot wounds

An Edwards Airmen died today from gunshot wounds suffered at a California City residence.

Dead is Staff Sgt. Brian M. Carragher, a military working dog handler assigned to the 95th Security Forces Squadron.

At approximately 7:40 p.m. California City Police notified the Edwards AFB Command Post of the shooting. According to military sources Staff Sgt Carragher was transported by MEDEVAC to Antelope Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"We are shocked and deeply saddened by Brian's passing," said Colonel Gregory Schwab, 95th Air Base Wing commander. "He personified the Airman's ethos and served his country proudly and humbly, both here and overseas."

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations and the California City Police Department are investigating the incident.

"Brian will be sorely missed and we are doing all we can to support his family in this very difficult time," said Col Schwab.
