The Edwards West Gate entrance should not be used Oct. 1 by anyone who can reasonably avoid using it, base officials say. The base is hosting a fly-in on Rosamond Dry Lakebed that will cause lengthy delays in both directions during all commuting hours.

Anyone who can use the North or South gates should use them instead.

Drivers who must use the Rosamond Boulevard entrance are advised to adjust their time to account for delays.

Upwards of 800 vehicles will travel on Rosamond Boulevard to the Rosamond Dry Lakebed, and more than 100 aircraft will land on the lakebed. The event is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. through as late as 6 p.m.

Rosamond Boulevard will be delineated with hundreds of cones merging through traffic to Edwards to the left lane, while event traffic will veer to the right toward the lakebed. Traffic police will direct traffic and flag-persons will control the flow. Lit flashing signs will warn traffic of the upcoming merger.

There will also be traffic coming from the base by those attending the event as well as those delivering support equipment and supplies.

Traffic coming from Main Base will cross Rosamond Boulevard in front of inbound traffic, which will be stopped as necessary by traffic police. Upon completion of the event, the outgoing traffic will again cross Rosamond Boulevard heading west and merge with outgoing Edwards traffic.
