Edwards to hold Retiree Appreciation Day Oct. 2

The 2010 Retiree Appreciation Day is scheduled for Oct. 2, in Hangar 1600. Doors will open at 8 a.m. with presentations and refreshments from 9 a.m. to noon, and the last hour dedicated to information booths and a live band.

Opening remarks will be given by Maj. Gen. David J. Eichhorn, Air Force Flight Test Center commander and Col. Gregory E. Schwab, 95th Air Base Wing commander. Keynote speaker will be the Honorable Steve Knight, California 36th District Assemblyman.

Other speakers will be:
Col. Viki Lin, 95th Medical Group chief of staff;
Ms. Valerie Vigil, TriWest customer service representative;
Mr. Bob Ortiz, Department of Veterans Affairs representative;
Lt. Col. Bradley Mitchell, Air Force Flight Test Center Staff Judge Advocate;
and Mr. Dean Murphree, Casualty Affairs office at the Airman & Family Readiness Center.

Military and corporate information booths and displays will also be included. Medical, Pass and Identification and Staff Judge Advocate will provide limited services from noon to 3 p.m. in their respective places of business.

Closing remarks will be given by Col. Joe Torres, 95th Air Base Wing vice commander.

"The Retiree Activities Office serves as a liaison between the active duty units at Edwards and the retiree communities of all branches of the armed forces," said Richard F. Snyder, Retiree Activities Office director. "We encompass Edwards, Naval Air Warfare Center China Lake, Fort Irwin, United States Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow and Naval Air Station Lemoore."

Lodging may be reserved on base by calling 661-275-7666. The Family Camp recreational vehicle facility is also available and reservations can be made at 661-277-8182.

In addition to the Family Camp, there will be parking for the RVs at the Base Exchange and bowling alley parking lots. A base shuttle bus will pick up event attendees from those lots and drop them off at Hangar 1600, where event presentations will take place. After the event, shuttle service will resume to return attendees to their cars.

The shuttle will run from 7:45 to 9 a.m. and from noon to 2 p.m. Stops will be in front of the Base Exchange and in front of the bowling alley.

Everyone driving cars directly to the event will be directed to the Hangar 1600 parking lot.

Attendees are reminded that cameras, cellular telephones, video recording devices, mobility and oxygen carts, prescription medications and service animals are allowed on base and at the day's event. Items that are not allowed are firearms, illegal and dangerous weapons and non-prescription or illicit drugs, regardless of medical use or prescription.
