The "Hoops in the Sun 2011" three-on-three basketball tournament asks participants to step up their game and at the same time aid a worthy cause.

The tournament, which begins March 19 at the Community Park Court, is open to anyone on base who would like to participate - enlisted members, officers, civilians, family members.

Teams may register now through March 15. The entry fee is $10 per person or $30 per team.

Proceeds will go to support the First-Four and Middle-Tier Associations.

A donation will also be made to a charitable organization of choice by the Edwards Chiefs Group.

Trophies will be presented to first-, second-, and third-place finishers. The winning team will also receive $25 gift cards from Foot Locker.

In addition to those who play in the tournament, volunteers are needed to operate a concession stand, to complete all set-up and clean-up activities and as fans in the stands cheering the participants on. Everyone's help would be greatly valued and appreciated, organizers say.

Those who want to register should see their unit's first sergeant for registration forms. For organizations that do not have a first sergeant, or for those who would like more information, please contact Senior Airman Devon Sumter at 277-6263.

Organizers say they're looking forward to seeing everyone's "A" game at the tournament, which they believe can build Team Edwards morale not only through the competition, but also by helping a worthy cause.
