Edwards will kick off its Air Force Assistance Fund campaign March 28 and runs through May 6.

Once the campaign begins, selected unit representatives will be soliciting donations from active duty, retirees, guardsmen and reservists. Air Force family members are eligible to donate as well.

The goal of the campaign is to have 100-percent contact with eligible donors.

"Those Air Force members who are eligible to benefit from the fund are eligible to donate," said Capt. Michael Baker, Air Force Flight Test Center AFAF representative. "Bottom line, it's the Air Force family taking care of the Air Force family."

The Air Force Assistance Fund was established to provide an annual effort to raise funds for the charitable affiliates that provide support to those in need in the Air Force family, which include active duty servicemembers, retirees, reservists, guard members, their dependents and surviving spouses.

The charitable organizations who receive the donations are Air Force Villages, Inc., the Air Force Aid Society, Inc., the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation, and the Air Force Enlisted Village, Inc. These organizations help Air Force people with aid in an emergency, with educational needs, or to have a secure retirement home for widows or widowers of Air Force members in need of financial assistance.

Captain Baker said civilians will not be asked to donate by AFAF unit representatives but are free to do so if they desire.

This year's goal for Edwards is $54,317.

Brig. Gen. Robert C. Nolan II, Air Force Flight Test Center commander, along with base leadership, will have the opportunity to donate first during a reception at Club Muroc March 25 at 8 a.m.

Active duty installations conduct their campaigns for a period of six consecutive weeks between Feb. 7 and May 6. Edwards' campaign period begins March 28.

Reserve installations will conduct their campaigns through June and the annual retiree appeal will be in a future electronic edition of the Air Force retiree newsletter, the e-Afterburner; and also through the Air Force Retiree News Service.
