New Wireless Network Requires New Vigilance at Edwards Published April 6, 2011 By 95th Communications Squadron EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Personal wireless communication systems including smart phones, iPads, routers (both wired and wireless), wireless printers, wireless laptops and commercial wireless phones are not authorized to connect to any Edwards network, wired or wireless. People are authorized to use their personal cell phones and iPads, but they cannot connect them to any Edwards network. Any personal device found connected to any Edwards network will be confiscated by the 95th Communications Squadron, with the owner of the device facing potential disciplinary action. Any employee who is found connecting a wireless government device to the Edwards network without having obtained prior approval through the 95th CS's Wireless Authorization process could also find themselves facing disciplinary action. Edwards Air Force Base in currently installing a second-generation wireless local area network. Once installed, it will be an extension of the base's non-secure internet protocol router network, or NIPRNet.
