The April 18 deadline to file federal tax returns is approaching and the Edwards Tax Center is filing away.

The Tax Center has experienced a busy season so far, refunding over $1.3 million in federal and state returns since opening its doors Jan. 30.

"We have surpassed last year's numbers with a lot less volunteer support than we had last year," said Capt. Sam Small, Air Force Flight Test Center Judge Advocate Office chief of legal assistance. "It is an impressive amount of money going back to our Air Force family."

Active duty, retirees, reservists on active duty orders and their dependents are welcome to schedule a free consultation with IRS certified volunteers at the Tax Center.

"For those Airmen who haven't filed their taxes, they should get moving prior to April 15," said Capt. Small. "Technically, the tax season ends on April 18, but our tax center will be closing on April 15."

Those who qualify can schedule appointments by calling the Tax Center at 275-3829. Walk-ins are also welcome on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for those only filing Form 1040EZ, Income Tax Return for Single and Joint Filers With No Dependents.

The Tax Center is located in the Desert Mall at 1100 Kincheloe Ave. and will be open for appointments Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
