Fourth Annual Rat Race challenges Team Edwards Published May 25, 2011 By 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- About 200 Team Edwards members braved the morning air May 20 and took on the challenge of competing in the Fourth Annual Air Force Research Laboratory Detachment 7 Rat Race, which organizers call the highest and most daunting course at Edwards. The 5K fun run tested the runners' strength and intestinal fortitude by having to climb Leuhman Ridge. Those who paid the $15 to enter received a T-shirt and a workout. Proceeds from the race will go to AFRL's events committee. Participants were treated to brunch after the race. Congratulations to all the winners and participants! First-place finishers: Male 25 and under: David Brickner, 24:14, AFRL Male 26-35: Airman 1st Class Justin Bronder, 21:19, U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School Male 36+: Joshua Davies, 24:54, Test Operations Female 25 and under: 1st. Lt. Kristin Hoover, 29:27, AFRL Female 26-35: Melanie Marek, 28:46, AFRL Female 36+: Kathleen Thune-Diorio, 29:32, Air Force Flight Test Center AFRL won the Unit Award over Test Operations with an average time of 25:32.
