Edwards to welcome back Desert Wings June 10 Published June 1, 2011 By 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs 95th Public Affairs Office, director EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Following a nearly five-year hiatus the Desert Wings returns to Edwards Air Force Base and Antelope Valley communities beginning June 10. A five-year commercial enterprise contract with Aerotech News and Review of Lancaster, Calif., revived the long-storied base newspaper. Previously, Aerotech had published the Desert Eagle as a service to Edwards following a drawdown of printed newspapers across the Air Force. According to Mike Strickler, Edwards Public Affairs director, recent changes to Air Force instructions and popular demand prompted the 95th Air Base Wing to strike the contract with Aerotech and reclaim Edwards' long-running news and information source. "The Desert Wings had served Edwards for many years prior to the printing pause, capturing seminal events in aerospace history, and we felt it only proper to restore the moniker as our flagship official weekly publication," said Mr. Strickler. The newspaper will have a new look and focus more closely on serving as a community broadsheet that brings news and information of use to the base, and opens channels for customer feedback. "We will continue to carry the latest on aerospace happenings and developmental test and evaluation news, mixed with new features that you'd see in most installations newspapers," Mr. Strickler said. "Among the newer features will be a man-on-the-street section, Warrior of the Week and an Action Line we'll use to answer and comment on your questions and concerns." According to Aerotech, the Desert Wings will be available in the same locations as the Desert Eagle, both on and off base, and they will continue to distribute the Wings' weekly sister publication, Aerotech News and Review. Those wishing to receive a home-delivered copy of either publication can contact Aerotech's circulation department at 945-5634.
