Two Team Edwards members win AFMC awards for superior performance Published June 8, 2011 By Chris Hanke Air Force Materiel Command,Technical Awards Manager WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Air Force Materiel Command recognized 26 winners for the 2011 AFMC Science, Engineering and Technical Management Award, May 18, at the Wright-Patt Club. There were 156 nominees who competed for 26 award categories for accomplishments in 2010. The awards recognized the superior performance of Air Force officers, enlisted members, civilians and teams dedicated to the support of the Air Force through their expertise in science, engineering and technical management. Award winners included two from Edwards Air Force Base. The Senior Civilian Engineer Award went to Anthony J. Rubino, 412th Test Wing, Test Engineering Group. The Science and Engineering Educator Award went to Lt. Col. (Dr.) Timothy Jorris, United States Air Force Test Pilot School. Lt. Gen. Mark D. Shackelford, Military Deputy, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, was the guest speaker. General Shackelford and Russell B. Howard, director, Engineering and Technical Management, presented the awards to the winners. "AFMC is by definition a technical command. Outstanding scientists and engineers like these are the base we build on to deliver warfighting capability every day. I appreciate their example and leadership in getting the mission done," said Mr. Howard. The Captain Roland R. Obenland Memorial Award was also presented by Mrs. Joyce Obenland-Roper in honor of her brother who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968, during a close-air support mission in an F-100 Super Sabre. The banquet was held on the 43rd anniversary of Capt. Obenland's death.
