Edwards crowns base golf champions, announces upcoming tourneys, free golf clinic Published Aug. 10, 2011 By 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Muroc Lake Golf Course crowned a men's and women's champion at the Base Championship Golf Tournament held the weekend of Aug. 6. Tech. Sgt. Shawn Rodgers, 412th Maintenance Group, shot a lifetime personal best to win the men's championship with a score of 4 under par. He shot a 68 on the final day, ending up with a total score of 144. Chelsea Orozco, a contractor with the 95th Force Support Group, won the ladies championship. She shot an 80 on both days. The Muroc Lake Golf Course has two tournaments and a ladies day free golf clinic coming up in the upcoming weeks. The course will hold a civilian golf tournament Aug. 17 beginning at noon. The event is free to government civilian employees and will include lunch. On Sept. 3, the course will hold an "Us vs. Them" tournament, which will be a four-person scramble. The cost for the tournament will be $20 for members and $30 for non-members, which includes green fees, cart, lunch, range balls and prizes. Everyone has a chance to win great prizes, organizers say. Play will begin at 8 a.m. Then on Sept. 24, the course will have a ladies day free golf clinic. The focus of the clinic is for beginning golfers. The club will provide golf clubs and range balls. People can sign up in the pro shop or call 275-PUTT for each event.
