After 25 years of service, Col. Stephen O'Connor, Air Force Flight Test Center vice commander, called it a career and received a retirement sendoff Sept. 1. A ceremony took place at Hangar 1207 where the colonel‟s Air Force career took major turn toward test after he graduated from the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School in 1997. O'Connor was awarded two aerial achievement awards, a first Oak Leaf Cluster and a Legion of Merit award. He also received a letter from President Barack Obama, one from Gen. Norton A. Schwartz, Air Force chief of staff, and one from Brig. Gen. Robert C. Nolan II, AFFTC commander. O'Connor said he doesn‟t have any immediate plans for his future as a civilian, but said he hopes to continue serving his country in some capacity.
