50 Years of Caring, CFC Fundraising at Edwards Published Oct. 5, 2011 By Meredith Mingledorff 95th ABW Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Federal employees and servicemembers have been joining forces for the Combined Federal Campaign more than 50 years now. Units are participating at all levels and in true Air Force style, it is a team event. Led and co-chaired by Majors Chad Holt and Patrick Merriman, of the Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center Detachment 5 here, Edwards Air Force Base will be campaigning for the fundraiser Oct. 5 - Nov. 16. "Our goal for Edwards this year is to raise $413,000," said Major Holt. "We aim to contact 100 percent of base personnel and hope at least 30 percent choose to give." In 2010, Edwards exceeded its goal of $403,000 to raise $413,000; this year's target contribution. According to Holt, the average gift last year was $384. The funds raised can be donated to specified organizations or given generally to undisclosed charities. Donors may give a one-time contribution, donate online, or elect payroll deductions for their gift. The Combined Federal Campaign is an annual opportunity for federal employees and servicemembers to support participating charities. Edwards falls under the Greater Los Angeles CFC and more information on local charities can be found online at http://www.greaterlacfc.org. Participation is voluntary and contributions may be made anonymously if the donor chooses. Although each member will be asked if they would like to give, organizers understand not all will participate. The CFC was established in 1961 to provide authorized workplace fundraising in the federal community. More than 2,500 charities are eligible for payroll deductions. CFC supported charities focus on issues like disaster relief, care for animals, care the environment, education, medical research, and community services.
