Team Edwards employs Wingman concept to launch "Share a Ride" program Published Oct. 19, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Quanisha Gaines 95th Mission Support Group EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Airmen, Marines, or Soldiers working on base without a car now have the opportunity to hitch a ride from one area of the base to another at no cost to them. Team Edwards is implementing the "Share a Ride" program because there is no contracted transportation system currently in place on base. The sole purpose of this initiative is to provide servicemembers without automobiles an avenue of transportation around the base. This program is completely voluntary, as long as both the passenger and driver have a valid government or contractor ID. The success of this program will rely solely on the number of Team Edwards members exercising the Wingman concept by volunteering to support the Share-a-Ride program, base leaders say. Several places have been designated as key pick-up locations. They have bench seating and signage that says "EAFB Share a Ride." Motorists wishing to participate in the program can simply drive by one of the designated "EAFB Share a Ride" locations and see if they are headed the same direction as a waiting person. The designated pick-up locations include, but are not limited to: The Medical Clinic Club Muroc The Dorm Complex Commissary and Base Exchange Corner of East Yeager and North Wolf Two common-sense guidelines apply, base leaders say: Those awaiting a ride to work should always have a backup plan, and drivers should not request payment for travel.
