Staff Sergeant Soars, receives award from Team Edwards Chiefs Group Published Oct. 21, 2011 By Meredith Mingledorff 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Staff Sgt. Fatima Zamudio, public health technician, 95th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, was surprised by the Edwards Chiefs Group during a unit staff meeting Oct. 20, awarded the group's "Dare to Soar Award," for the actions she took to respond to a key need in the C-17 program. Staff Sgt. Zamudio produced training slides tailored to educate maintenance workers about dealing with biohazard spills and then taught 43 employees from two separate aircraft maintenance units about how to deal with those situations. The course was identified as critically important by unit leaders and provided training and guidance on specific incident protocol and cleanup procedures. Employees are now trained on how to properly clean biohazard spills that may contain infectious materials. Staff Sgt. Zamudio went above and beyond the call of duty when she researched stock numbers and aided the units with purchase of their own cleanup kits. Her performance provided a mission-critical capability at a time when it was most needed. "Not only was Staff Sgt. Zamudio very professional throughout the entire process, but her entire demeanor was customer-focused," proclaimed Nathan M. Dixon Jr., chief, Maintenance Training Division, 412th Maintenance Group.
