Holiday shoppers and travelers advised to stay alert Published Nov. 3, 2011 By Frank Sporer Installation Antiterrorism Office EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- As the holidays approach, shoppers and travelers are advised to maintain a heightened state of awareness to avoid becoming a victim of criminal activity. While transiting malls, shops, airports, amusement parks, public attractions, and other large gatherings, it is recommended by safety professionals that people stay alert and be on the lookout for suspicious activity. This can include, but is not limited to: unattended packages, unusual incidents, strange behavior and breaking news. Situational awareness can help prevent you from becoming a victim of criminal activity. Before traveling, prepare yourself with the most current threat brief available from your unit antiterrorism representative. It is suggested you have a plan for your travel and ensure others are aware of those plans. Additional travel advisory information is available at the U.S. Department of State website, http://www.state.gov/travel/.
