Staff Sgt. Jesse R. Mathieu is Warrior of the Week Published Nov. 7, 2011 By Meredith Mingledorff 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Hometown: Citrus Heights, Calif. When did you join the Air Force? November 2002 Why did you join? I needed a change in my life...set out on a different, more prosperous, honorable path. What do you like most about your job? I enjoy the adrenaline rush, the traveling, and opportunities to work with a large variety of organizations. What do you like to do in the area? Visiting family, playing softball, spending time with my wife & kids--taking kids to the park, time with my wife, coaching baseball, and my daughter's soccer games. Warrior Highlights: Staff Sgt. Mathieu was selected as the Warrior of the Week because of his commitment to his duties. He's nearly always the last one in the office at the end of the day working on mission reports or preparing for the next task. Staff Sgt. Mathieu recently returned from Shanksville, Pa., where he led a technical support team for the U.S. Secret Service while President Obama was speaking at the 9/11 memorial ceremony. He was responsible for ensuring the area was clear of improvised explosive devices. Staff Sgt. Mathieu also played a key role during a range clearance mission for the west side of the Precision Impact Range Area. As an experienced member in our shop, he's very familiar with the archaic munitions that have been used here since the early 1940's. His knowledge was critical to guarantee safety and establish an accurate plan to destroy the remaining munitions. And finally, Staff Sgt Mathieu is the primary Government Purchase Card holder for our unit. We can always rely on him to research the best pieces of equipment and make sure we have them available when the time comes to perform the mission. We were honored to have Staff Sgt. Mathieu's family present to witness him re-enlist for the second time in his career recently. -- Master Sgt. Denny Hart, chief, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Branch
