Disney stars read, chat, sign autographs during visit to Children's Library Published Dec. 19, 2011 By Meredith Mingledorff 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- More than 100 children and their parents filled the Desert Mall corridor in front of the Children's Library as Disney stars Doug and Chris Brochu read aloud, signed autographs, and talked with the group for about two hours Dec. 16 . The pair read aloud from the book "Max and Indie Come Home" by Kerry Moynahan and Angela O'Brien. They also interacted with the attendees and held a raffle with author Moynahan, allowing several youngsters to win a free Max and Indie coloring book complete with autographs. The children were thrilled with the visit. Keaton Withrow, age 9, stood out in front of the crowd, anxious with excitement, hoping his number would be called during the raffle. "I like their music and their shows," said Keaton about the Brochu brothers. "I like their funny skits." Keaton added that the Max and Indie story was good and reminded him of his own cat, Ginger, as he showed off his autographed copy of the book. Also in the crowd were Allyson Young, age 15, and her sister, Macey, age 13. They were excited about meeting the movie stars and said Chris's movie "Soul Surfer" taught them that anyone can overcome adversity, much like Max and Indie, two stray cats who face many challenges as they find their way home and into the hearts of children everywhere. Doug has a recurring role on the Disney TV show "iCarly" and is a regular on another Disney TV show, "Sonny With a Chance." Chris has played in movies such as "Soul Surfer" and "Lemonade Mouth." He also was the lead singer and songwriter for the band "Fall Into Faith." When asked why he and his brother wanted to participate in the Edwards event, Chris replied, "We're military brats. Our dad retired after 25 years of active duty with the Army, so we know how important this community is." According to Moynahan, the Max and Indie series aims to tell the story of real life rescue cats while teaching children lessons of responsibility, honesty, and trustworthiness. Children of all ages came out to enjoy the 95th Force Support Squadron hosted event. The Max and Indie series are available online at www.MaxandIndie.com or anywhere books are sold.
