Name: Pamela Foster

Rank: GS-07

Duty Title: Commissary management specialist (computer-assisted ordering)

Office/ Duty Section: Edwards AFB Commissary

Hometown: Shumpin, Thailand

When did you join the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA)? July 2005

Why did you join the Defense Commissary Agency?
I have worked in retail all my life, but not the grocery business. I wanted to expand my job skills and knowledge. DeCA was very appealing to me for many reasons, I wanted to give back to the military community and liked that the Defense Commissary Agency is a nonprofit institution. I wanted to work for an organization that was more patron oriented and DeCA is a very customer-service oriented agency.

What do you like most about your job?
As a computer-assisted ordering specialist I have the ability to do a wide range of activities. I get to explore the CAO systems and solve problems. I have the unique opportunity to really get to know our patrons' buying patterns and observe the ever-changing sales trends, which in turn enables me to excel at being a CAO. With all that said I'd have to say my favorite part of the job is that it is not "just a job," I get a deep sense of satisfaction just knowing that my customer-service skills have brought at least one smile to someone's face.

What is your favorite thing to do around the area?
I like spending time with my husband and my dogs, going to the movies and playing golf.
