Name: Jacob Barnhill

Rank: Staff Sgt.

Duty Title: Lead Research Laboratory Instrumentation technician

Hometown: Columbia, S.C.

When did you join the Air Force? August 2004

Why did you join the Air Force? I wanted to follow in my father's footsteps. Being a military brat, I was interested in travelling the world. I spent a lot of time in Europe growing up and love the culture. I was able to spend my first five years in the AF there and hope to go back soon.

What do you like most about your job? I really enjoy working at the Research Lab along side of some of the smartest folks around. One in particular, Marco Bender, really took me under his wing and showed me the ropes. As far as my career field in general, I really enjoyed working in a Combat Communications unit and the ability to be stationed almost anywhere in the world.

What is your favorite thing to do around the area? The location of Edwards and proximity to L.A. is great because of the ability to do almost anything and experience everything SoCal has to offer. In my spare time, I spend a lot of time working out, especially my zumba and yoga classes.

Warrior Highlights: "Staff Sgt. Barnhill is mature beyond his years. He is dedicated to our mission and his fellow workers. He is always first in line to volunteer for whatever is needed. He and his wife, Erin, our Key Spouse, go well above and beyond the call of duty taking care of their fellow Airmen. Whether it's helping with yardwork at his deployed Airman's house or bringing dinners to an AFRL family after the birth of a child, Staff Sgt. and Mrs. Barnhill are out in front. The Barnhill team is definitely a huge part of the AFRL Family and Team Edwards; plus made the 5th Annual Rocket Ridge Rat Race this year a huge success."
