Attention Edwards personnel. The 95th Security Forces Squadron would like to remind motorcycle riders of clothing requirements for base entry and riding on Edwards Air Force Base. The below references are from AFI 91-207, The U.S. Air Force Traffic Safety Program and the AFI 91-207 Traffic Safety MOA with AFGE Council 214.

3.4.2.3. Personal Protective Equipment. Motorcycle, ATV and Three-Wheeled
vehicle riders will wear:

3.4.2.3.2. Eye Protection. Goggles, wrap around glasses, or a full-face
shield (properly attached to helmet) .... A windshield does not constitute
proper eye protection.

3.4.2.3.3. Protective Clothing. Wearing of long sleeved shirt or jacket,
long trousers and full-fingered gloves or mittens is required.

3.4.2.3.4. Foot Protection. Sturdy, over the ankle footwear that affords
protection for the feet and ankles. Sandals, low quarters, sneakers
and similar footwear will not be used.

3.4.2.4. Garment and Motorcycle Visibility. Motorcycle riders will
choose riding apparel as upper garments that incorporate high visibility
colors (e.g. fluorescent yellow-green, fluorescent orange-red or fluorescent
red, etc.) during the day and a retro-reflective upper garment during the
night. Outer upper garment shall be visible and not covered. Wearing a
backpack is authorized if it has high visibility colors/high visibility
reflective properties or does not obscure the high visibility and
reflectivity of the rider's upper garment.

The 95th SFS will begin to fully implement the above mentioned requirements on July 9, 2012. Riders not meeting these requirements while attempting to enter Edwards Air Force Base will be denied access and turned away. Riders already on base who are not wearing the proper attire will be issued a citation. Riders who accumulate 12 points against their driving record within a 24 month period (regardless of specific type of infraction) are processed for suspension of driving privileges. If you have any questions, you can contact the 95th SFS Police Services section at (661) 277-6901.
