Houses on Edwards to get new appliances

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- More than 200 homes in the Mountain View and east end of Joshua Acres Housing Areas will soon receive new energy-efficient appliances thanks to funding received from Air Force Materiel Command Headquarters to upgrade our oldest homes here, which were built from 1998 to 2000.

Residents who will be recipients of appliances should expect to be contacted by the housing office any day now to learn details and arrange appointments. It is expected to take approximately three months to complete installation in all the homes.

Existing refrigerators, ranges and dishwashers will be removed. New EnergyStar refrigerators and dishwashers, ranges with self-cleaning ovens, and something new - a vented microwave oven above the range will be added.

The exception is when an appliance has been replaced within the last two years and is in good working condition, then it will not be replaced at this time.

Even though residents will be minimally inconvenienced for the few hours it will take to get the old appliances out and new ones installed, the result will be new modern appliances and an upgraded kitchen.

With limited funding, the oldest homes in the Edwards inventory were chosen for this upgrade and the base is planning for the same or similar upgrades in all of our older homes throughout the remaining Joshua Acres Area and in Juniper Ridge as funding becomes available.
