Tony Horton, the creator of a popular home fitness program is scheduled to visit the base to train with Edwards personnel Aug. 23. The highly-esteemed personal trainer and creator of P90X will be conducting fitness classes for anyone who wishes to attend.

"Our men and women in uniform play a special role in protecting and serving our country," Horton said. "My goal is to help the folks at Edwards Air Force Base really understand the importance of consistent exercise, healthy eating and how it relates to better performance and improves their quality of life."

Putting on fitness classes isn't all Horton will be doing. He will also meet with physical fitness trainers and health and wellness staff to discuss various topics of fitness and nutrition. Horton will also be interacting with Airmen after the workout sessions, providing personal motivation and advice on being in top physical condition.

Todd Amon, Health and Wellness Center, and Pete Smith, Fitness Center director, helped organize his visit.

"We look forward to people coming out, having a good time and hopefully leaving with either a new or renewed appreciation for the importance of fitness in their daily lives," said Amon. "Investing in yourself through fitness not only helps you look and feel better, it's a great stress reliever and includes long term benefits of reducing your risks for health complication later in life."

All base personnel ages18 and older are welcome to attend an open exercise session with Horton at 7 a.m. on the Fitness Center Multipurpose field. The 10:30 a.m. session will be offered to active duty spouses and dependents (18 and older) first and then opened up to other base personnel as space permits; this will be held inside the Fitness Center. Both events require civilian workout attire to be worn and not the official Air Force fitness uniform.
