Edwards breaks ground for new service station Published Sept. 4, 2012 By Brittany Power Army & Air Force Exchange Service and 412th Test Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Excitedly, Edwards AFB Exchange had their groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 4 for their new service station. This project started two years ago after the need to upgrade existing facilities was recognized. The old gas station has been around for 20-plus years and renovations can only do so much. The new station will keep in compliance with California environmental law. The Exchange has also signed on with Firestone, which will provide three bays and bring a private car care business to the base. It will also have 10 pumps to help facilitate a quick in and out for customers. The new service station will be approximately 2,700 sq. feet of sales area, doubling the current station. The project will be AMG & Associates Inc., a construction management company from Santa Clarita. Calif. Edwards AFB Exchange General Manager Mike Wiles says, "This was a long time coming, and as of today, we are on path to open for business in June or July of 2013." The new station will be located across the street from Starbucks on Fitzgerald Blvd.
