Eligible for legal assistance? The Edwards Air Force Base Legal Office is happy to announce an expedited process for completing a will, advance medical directive or any other type of powers of attorney. In addition to our daily walk-in hours (see below) we will now be taking wills by appointments on Fridays between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Clients utilizing the Air Force Legal Assistance website (aflegalassistance.law.af.mil/lass/lass.html) can now have their will drafted in advance and ready for them to review when they arrive at the legal office. This will save you time and allow an attorney to pay greater attention to what you want the document to do prior to your arrival. To schedule an appointment, please complete a legal worksheet from the Air Force Legal Assistance website and then call (661) 277-4310 to schedule.

Although we will only be taking Friday appointments for clients that need wills, know that the legal assistance website can help expedite your visit to our office for several other types of documents. By using the website you can complete advance medical directive, health care powers of attorney, general powers of attorney and special powers of attorney worksheets. Save your ticket number and bring it with you to walk-in hours. Having your ticket number allows our attorneys to pull up your worksheets so that they can complete your documents faster and get you on your way.

We are happy to add expedited will appointments to our Friday lineup. However, please know that we will continue to see walk-ins Monday through Friday and can complete a will or other legal document the same day without appointment. That being said, it will take us a lot longer (more than an hour) than if you filled out a worksheet or if you made an appointment.

Remember, legal assistance services are not only available to active duty military members or those on active duty orders, they are also generally available for dependents and retirees entitled to an I.D. card. If you have questions about eligibility (Air Force Instruction 51-504, Legal Assistance, Notary, and Preventive Law Programs, 27 October 2003, paragraph 1.3) or need further information, please contact the Base Legal Office at (661) 277-4310.

Legal assistance attorneys are available on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., and on Tuesday and Thursday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Paralegals can provide power of attorney and notary services on Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
