Red Cross Dental Assistant Program returns to Edwards Published March 13, 2018 By 412th Aerospace Medicine Squadron EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The American Red Cross, in conjunction with the 412th Medical Group Dental Flight, is excited to announce the next dental assistant training class beginning April 9. The extensive training program is designed to prepare participants for employment in the local community as well as all areas of the United States and abroad. The course consists of two weeks of classroom training, followed by 1,000 hours of chairside training. Students must be available to complete all of the course requirements within a six-month time span. Additional duties consist of assisting dental officers in general dentistry, limited specialties and performing administrative duties normally associated with a dental practice. Applicants must be 18 years or older with access to Edwards AFB (independent of the Red Cross). Additionally, applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED certificate while being reliable and willing to commit to the 1,000 hour training. APPLICATION PROCESS Visit the American Red Cross website at www.redcross.org to complete a Red Cross volunteer application. Once complete, visit the Edwards AFB Dental Clinic between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. to receive the official application packet. All packets must be completed and turned in to the dental clinic by March 22. The dental program will contact applicants to schedule interviews prior to beginning the program. NOTE: Childcare is not provided for volunteers in this program.
