Team,

This Friday we celebrate the birth of our great nation and its declared independence.

The Declaration of Independence is the nation's most cherished symbol of liberty and Thomas Jefferson's most enduring monument.

Here, in exalted and unforgettable phrases, Jefferson expressed the convictions in the minds and hearts of the American people. The political philosophy of the Declaration was not new; its ideals of individual liberty had already been expressed by John Locke and the Continental philosophers.

The Fourth of July is a time to be with family and friends, but also serves as a reminder of what our Founding Fathers and members of our armed forces have sacrificed on our behalf. From the American Revolution to present day, we continue to protect America's freedom.

I thank all of you - Airman, civilian and contractor. Your hard work and commitment to providing the most advanced and superior air power to the warfighter makes us the greatest air force in the world. You are the greatest asset to the Air Force.

Please have a great and safe Independence Day weekend and I'll see you all at the Freedom Fest!
