Comprehensive Airman Fitness update Published July 9, 2014 By Edwards Communty Liaison Office office EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Comprehensive Airman Fitness is comprised of resiliency skills taught to help enable Airmen to make sound choices within the four domains of total fitness, mental, physical, spiritual and social. On April 2, Air Force Instruction 90-506, Comprehensive Airman Fitness, was electronically published and made available to the total force. The new AFI established an exciting benchmark, which collectively refers to Airmen as military, civilian, and family members. The mission of CAF is to build and sustain a culture of comprehensively fit airmen and families, taking care of themselves and each other. The AFI also established the flexibility for commanders and community support coordinators to facilitate resilience events or skills training in conjunction with, or independently from, commander-themed Wingman Days. Director of Air Force Services, Brig. Gen. Patrick Doherty, has sought support to help launch CAF and has distributed $2.5 million in funds across the major commands to aid installations with Wingman Days and resilience events or projects. As a result of the Air Force Community Action Information Board, and work accomplished through the Air Force Integrated Delivery System, the Air Force has increased the ratio of Master Resilience Trainers from one trainer per one thousand Airmen to one trainer per 200 Airmen, or one per squadron. The increase will help strengthen our ability to grow resiliency culture faster within our Total Forces, as well as, reduce the demand on the few trainers available. To accomplish this, the Air Force will be hiring five additional MRT Instructors from our Total Force to teach at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. In the near future, the CAF Branch AF/A1SAY will be seeking nominations for MRT Course Instructors to join our team of master MRT ninjas. Additionally, more training allocations will become available through major commands with a goal to reach over 2,700 MRTs by December 2016. Headquarters, Air Force A1 will continue to centrally fund temporary duty cost for MRTs as long as resources are available. As we move forward with building a resilient force, it is vitally important that we select Master Resilience Trainers, Instructors and Resilience Training Assistants that adhere to Air Force core values and personally demonstrate resiliency through their character and actions.
